Randall Sorrels

Randall O. Sorrels is the founding attorney of Sorrels Law, Houston, Texas. In preparation for his career, he earned his Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude from Houston Baptist University in 1984. Subsequently, in 1987, Mr. Sorrels attained his Juris Doctor magna cum laude from South Texas College of Law Houston. Admitted to practice in Texas, he represents clients before the United States District Court, Southern, Western, and Eastern Districts of Texas. Mr. Sorrels is a top attorney who specializes in personal injury claims. A passionate advocate for his clients, he holds four board certifications, including Personal Injury Trial Law, Civil Trial Law, and Civil Trial Advocacy, from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Mr. Sorrels is well-known for his success in the courtroom, having won multi-million-dollar verdicts in cases involving personal injury, medical malpractice, plant explosions, and business lawsuits. Despite the challenges of Covid, Mr. Sorrels and his team at Sorrels Law were able to secure two of the largest personal injury jury verdicts in the country, which received global media attention. In one case, the jury awarded $352.7 million in actual damages to an injured worker who suffered catastrophic injuries, while in the other case, two minor league baseball players were awarded $3.24 million. Mr. Sorrels started his legal career at Fulbright & Jaworski, where he represented doctors, hospitals, insurance companies, and businesses in Texas who were accused of civil wrongdoing.

Mr. Sorrels has an impressive track record in the legal community. He has held various leadership positions, such as the past President of the Texas Association of Civil Trial and Appellate Specialists, past Chair of the Fellows of the Texas Bar Foundation, and President of the Houston Bar Association. He has also served as President of the Houston Trial Lawyers Association and the Houston Trial Lawyers Foundation, Vice President of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, Trustee of the Texas Bar Foundation, Director of the State Bar of Texas (for two terms), Commissioner of the Equal Access to Justice Commission, Trustee of the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society, and is currently serving on the Board of Directors at South Texas College of Law Houston. Mr. Sorrels was elected as the 2019-2020 State Bar President by Texas lawyers, with the widest margin of victory in State Bar history. He is the only Texas board-certified plaintiffs' lawyer to have served as President of the State Bar of Texas and has been recognized as one of the Top 100 lawyers in the state by Texas Super Lawyers magazine. Throughout his presidency, he traveled across Texas, earning a reputation for assisting not only his clients but also his fellow lawyers. With a vast network of friends and connections throughout the state, he is frequently hired by lawyers who require legal representation.

Mr. Sorrels has received statewide recognition and prestigious awards for his excellent representation of clients and lawyers. He was recently named the ALM Media/Texas Lawyer Attorney of the Year Award for 2022 and has consistently been named one of the Top 100 lawyers in the state for the past 14 years. In addition, he has been awarded the TEX-ABOTA’s Trial Lawyer of the Year and the Best Lawyers® Personal Injury – Plaintiffs “Lawyer of the Year” in Houston for 2022. He has also previously been named the Best Lawyers Medical Malpractice Law – Plaintiffs “Lawyer of the Year” in Houston three times. Mr. Sorrels is a highly esteemed lawyer in the state and has been recognized with several prestigious awards. He was granted the President's Award by the State Bar of Texas for his exceptional contributions to the legal community in Texas. He also received the Judge Sam Williams Award for his outstanding work in supporting local bars and the State Bar of Texas. In addition, he was granted the Houston Bar Association President's Award for his significant contributions to an HBA program. Earlier in his career, he was honored with the Woodrow B. Seals Outstanding Young Lawyer of Houston Award, which recognizes a young Houston lawyer who exhibits exceptional professional qualities inside and outside the practice of law. Mr. Sorrels is a renowned attorney who has published and spoken extensively in his field. He is happily married to his law partner, Alex L. Farias-Sorrels, whom he regards as one of the smartest lawyers he knows. He is a proud father of five children and one granddaughter. His oldest daughter assists with Sorrels Law's communication efforts while his second daughter works as a speech-language pathologist in New York. His twin son and daughter are currently studying law at the University of Texas, while his youngest son is enrolled in a Montessori program.
