Usman Mughal
Usman Mughal is a highly experienced patent attorney and the founder of Mughal Gaudry & Franklin PC in Beaverton, Oregon. With more than 14 years of practice in the field of law, Mr. Mughal specializes in intellectual property law, specifically focusing on patent prosecution for computer, electrical, and software-related inventions. Throughout his career, Mr. Mughal has worked with various technologies, including telecommunications, thermal sensors, CAD tool design, and microwave circuits. Mr. Mughal graduated summa cum laude from North Carolina State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. He furthered his education at the same university, obtaining a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. Continuing his pursuit of intellectual property law, Mr. Mughal earned his Juris Doctor with a focus on intellectual property law, graduating cum laude from Lewis & Clark Law School. At law school, he served on the Editorial Board of the Lewis & Clark Law Review. Additionally, Mr. Mughal provides litigation support for non-infringement and validity opinions of third-party patents.
Actively involved in the legal community, Mr. Mughal co-founded the first Oregon Muslim Bar Association and actively participates in the organization's endorsement committee. He has also played a significant role in fundraising and constructing the TCF School—Portland Chapter, a primary school located in a remote village in Pakistan. More than 50% of the students in the school are female. Furthermore, Mr. Mughal co-founded Southwest Community Health Center, a nonprofit clinic dedicated to providing healthcare services to uninsured and underinsured individuals. His dedication to the legal profession is evident through his previous role as the president of the Oregon Patent Law Association and his chairmanship of a three-day continuing legal education conference. Before his legal career, Mr. Mughal worked as a design engineer in microprocessor design, earning over 10 U.S. patents and co-authoring 15 technical papers. He gained valuable experience through internships at prominent design companies.
